Attack Inside Snellville Middle School: 8th Grader’s Harrowing Experience Caught on Video Raises Questions About Teacher’s Role

Snellville, Ga. — A violent incident at Snellville Middle School has raised alarms after a video surfaced showing an eighth grader being physically assaulted by a classmate. The altercation unfolded in a classroom on Wednesday afternoon, prompting concern over student safety and the school’s response.

The footage reportedly shows a male student taking the phone of his classmate, Paradise Muhammed. When she attempted to retrieve her property, the incident escalated into violence, with the boy throwing her against desks and kicking her in the head as classmates watched. Paradise later displayed bruises she attributed to the encounter, expressing shock and dismay at how easily the situation deteriorated.

“I just feel it’s a lot to take in,” Paradise said, commenting on the video that has drawn significant attention. “Seeing myself being thrown around like that is hard to process.”

Witnesses to the event seemed to react with indifference, reportedly capturing the altercation on their phones instead of intervening. “People were just making noise and sound effects while I was getting hurt,” she said. Paradise also noted that no classmates stepped in to help her during the incident.

In a troubling twist, both the victim and the assailant received identical disciplinary actions. Paradise stated she was issued a suspension notice, the same consequence applied to the boy involved. “Looking back at the video, it doesn’t seem right,” she stated, questioning the fairness of the repercussions they both faced.

Amidst the chaos, the whereabouts of the teacher in the classroom have come under scrutiny. Paradise claimed the teacher was outside during the incident, making phone calls and seemingly unaware of the turmoil occurring within the class. However, the Gwinnett County school district released a statement disputing that account. They clarified that the video only shows a segment of what happened, and insisted that the teacher acted within district policies.

The district also emphasized that the behavior displayed by both students was unacceptable, reiterating their commitment to upholding a safe educational environment. “While the video is concerning, it captures only part of the incident,” a district representative stated. “After a thorough review, it was determined that the teacher followed appropriate procedures.”

Paradise disagrees with the district’s portrayal of the situation and the actions of the teacher. She expressed frustration that the instructor was not present when needed and did not offer assistance afterward. “The teacher should have been there to see if I was okay,” she said. “It’s hard to understand how someone in that position could overlook such a serious incident.”

The school community is now left grappling with the aftermath of the event, raising questions about student safety, intervention, and the effectiveness of current protocols in addressing such incidents.
