Aurora, Illinois — A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with a violent attack on a 70-year-old man during an alleged robbery attempt late last month. Authorities made the announcement on Wednesday, detailing the charges against the teenager, who is now held at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center.
The teenager faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery, attempted robbery, and resisting arrest. According to police, the incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on August 28 when the victim reported a violent encounter while walking along West Galena Boulevard.
First responders transported the victim to Mercy Hospital, where medical staff confirmed he sustained a broken orbital bone, along with serious facial injuries, including swelling and lacerations. “This was a brutal and unprovoked assault on a member of our community,” said Aurora Police Chief Matthew Thomas. He underscored the department’s commitment to safeguarding vulnerable residents, particularly seniors, highlighting the seriousness of such acts.
The victim recounted that a young male approached him, demanding money before striking him repeatedly in the face. The assault continued, he said, even after he fell to the ground. In a display of resilience, the victim managed to escape the situation, contact the police, and provide a detailed description of his assailant.
Officers quickly responded to the scene and discovered the victim suffering from significant injuries. Following the victim’s description, police located the teenager nearby. However, he attempted to flee on foot, leading to a brief chase before officers apprehended him.
