Attempted Murder Suspect Shot in Carjacking Incident on Interstate 65

Louisville, Kentucky – An Elizabethtown man is facing serious charges, including attempted murder and strangulation, after a chaotic incident involving a carjacking and shooting. Jason Calhoun, 45, was found by Louisville Metro Police officers with multiple gunshot wounds following a vehicle collision on the Outer Loop near Preston Highway, according to court documents.

Investigators revealed that Calhoun had apparently been engaged in a physical altercation with another individual on Interstate 65 near Fern Valley Road. The sequence of events unfolded when the victim of the carjacking reported that his vehicle had broken down at the I-65 North exit of the Outer Loop. Upon returning in his wife’s vehicle and positioning it behind his broken-down car, the victim encountered Calhoun approaching from behind.

Calhoun proceeded to demand the victim’s vehicle, threatening violence and claiming ownership of any firearms present. The victim managed to seize control of the gun, leading to a struggle during which Calhoun allegedly attempted to gouge out the victim’s eye. Subsequently, Calhoun intensified the assault by putting the victim in a chokehold.

In a desperate bid for survival, the victim eventually gained control of the gun and fired multiple shots at Calhoun, causing him to flee the scene. Despite being hit by a semi-truck during his escape, Calhoun managed to drive away before being located by authorities near the Outer Loop and Preston Highway area.

Both individuals sustained injuries from the ordeal, with Calhoun being treated for gunshot wounds at University Hospital and the victim receiving medical attention for visible injuries to his face, including a corneal abrasion to his left eye. Calhoun now faces charges of attempted murder, strangulation, robbery, and criminal mischief pending an upcoming arraignment.
