CASPER, Wyoming – A teenager suspected of fatally shooting a student at Natrona County High School had his bond set at $1 million on Wednesday. The incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning, left 17-year-old Lenea Brown dead.
The suspect, Eavan Castaner, appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday, facing charges of first-degree murder and stalking. This tragic event comes just over a month after another teen was arrested for a similar crime.
According to police reports, Castaner and Brown had previously been in a relationship that ended about a month ago. Following the breakup, Brown began receiving threatening messages from Castaner. Despite attempts from friends to intervene, the situation escalated early Tuesday morning.
On the night of the incident, Castaner reportedly approached Brown and her cousin while they were at a park. Castaner then drew a firearm and shot Brown from close range, claiming he did not intend for the gun to be loaded. Brown was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.
After the shooting, Castaner sought refuge at the home of another girl he had been communicating with. He was later arrested, and authorities found the weapon concealed in a dresser drawer at the residence.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Castaner had been drinking heavily prior to the incident, raising concerns about the role of alcohol in the tragedy. Preliminary hearings for Castaner are scheduled for the near future as the community grapples with the loss of a young life in a senseless act of violence.
The details surrounding this heartbreaking event serve as a stark reminder of the consequences of unchecked emotions and the importance of addressing mental health issues among young people. As the community mourns the loss of Lenea Brown, questions arise about how such tragedies can be prevented in the future.
