Brave Survivor of Vicious Axe Attack Found Dead Six Years Later: Tragic Tale of Cameron Brooksbank’s Journey

Middleton, UK – A man who displayed immense bravery in helping to bring down a criminal gang was tragically found dead six years after being attacked with an axe. Cameron Brooksbank, 24, known as Cam to his loved ones, was discovered unresponsive at an address in Middleton last year. The inquest revealed that a mix of prescription drugs and cocaine was found in his system, but the coroner ruled out suicide as the cause of death.

Brooksbank’s life took a dark turn six years ago when he intervened in a road rage incident and was brutally assaulted with an axe, forever changing him. His hand was partially reattached, but he underwent multiple surgeries to regain some use of his arm. The trauma from the attack haunted him, leading him to struggle with mental health issues and depression.

In a BBC crime documentary, Cameron candidly shared his struggles and how the attack had turned his life upside down. His grandfather attested to the profound impact the assault had on Cameron, stating that he was never the same person after the incident. Despite attempts to self-medicate with cocaine, his family believed he had stopped before his passing.

The toxicology report revealed a mixture of drugs in Cameron’s system, including some that were prescribed and cocaine. The coroner determined his cause of death as a result of drug use and bronchopneumonia, ruling it as a misadventure and not a suicide. The Greater Manchester Police praised Cameron’s bravery for helping bring justice to dangerous criminals.

Cameron’s mother, Claire, expressed profound grief over the loss of her “best friend” and described him as a hero with a heart of gold. She highlighted the enduring pain he endured from the attack and the subsequent struggles he faced in the years that followed. Cameron’s attacker, known as ‘Skinny’, was one of four men jailed for the brutal assault.

The sentencing of the attackers provided some closure, but it could never mitigate the lasting impact of the tragedy on Cameron and his loved ones. Despite the challenges he faced, Cameron’s legacy of bravery and resilience lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
