Los Angeles, California – The city of Los Angeles was once again struck by tragedy as a person was shot and killed on a Metro bus in Commerce, marking the fourth violent attack on public transportation in just one week. The incident occurred on the 6200 block of Slauson Avenue, leading to a swift response from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities reported that the suspect approached the victim from behind, brandishing a firearm and fatally shooting them onboard the bus. Both the suspect and the victim were passengers, and it is believed that a confrontation transpired prior to the tragic shooting.

In response to this latest incident, city leaders in Los Angeles have called for an end to the violence that has plagued public transportation in recent weeks. The shooting in Commerce came on the heels of another robbery and assault on a westbound Metro Line 240 bus in Encino, where a person was targeted on Tuesday.

Just the day before, a teenager was stabbed during a robbery attempt on a Metro bus in Glendale, underscoring the escalating violence on public transit. Additionally, a woman was stabbed in a Los Angeles Metro elevator in South Los Angeles on the same day, further highlighting the urgent need for enhanced safety measures.

In light of these alarming incidents, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who also serves as the Chair of the Metro Board of Directors, has ordered an immediate increase in public safety personnel on buses and trains. This surge aims to bolster visibility and deter criminal activity, as the city grapples with a spate of violent crimes on its public transportation system.

The string of attacks has raised concerns about the safety and security of passengers using the Metro bus and train services, prompting authorities to take decisive action to ensure the protection of commuters. As investigations continue into these incidents, the community remains on edge, calling for swift and effective measures to prevent further tragedies on public transportation in Los Angeles.
