Silver Spring, Maryland – Former House Speaker and U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi has thrown her support behind former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn in his bid for the 3rd Congressional District seat in Maryland. Pelosi, a Democrat hailing from California, commended Dunn for his heroism during the violent attack on the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021.

Dunn’s courageous actions that day did not go unnoticed by Pelosi, who expressed her gratitude for his protection of Capitol staff and lawmakers. As the Speaker at that time, Pelosi selected members for the committee investigating the events of January 6, in which Dunn played a pivotal role. His bravery and willingness to share his experience testified before the committee demonstrate his commitment to safeguarding democracy.

Having spent 15 years as a U.S. Capitol Police officer and currently residing in Montgomery County, Dunn’s candidacy faces stiff competition in the Democratic primary, with 21 opponents vying for the same seat. Among his contenders are prominent lawmakers like state Sen. Sarah Elfreth and state Sen. Clarence Lam. Despite criticisms for not living in the district he hopes to represent, Dunn remains confident in his familiarity with the area, highlighting his family ties and community involvement.

With a significant lead in fundraising compared to his opponents, Dunn’s campaign has garnered substantial financial support, indicating a growing momentum heading into the primary election. Despite facing challenges and scrutiny, Dunn remains resolute in his determination to serve the people of Maryland’s 3rd District, drawing inspiration from Pelosi’s endorsement.

As the primary election approaches on May 14, Dunn’s campaign continues to gain momentum, positioning him as a strong contender to secure the Democratic nomination and face the Republican candidate in the general election on Nov. 5. With Pelosi’s endorsement, Dunn’s commitment to advocating for working families and upholding democratic values is reinforced, setting the stage for a dynamic and competitive race in Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District.
