Howell Township, New Jersey — A late-night taxi ride turned violent when two passengers attacked their driver, leaving him injured and stealing the vehicle. The incident, which took place around 11:15 p.m. on January 16, has sparked an urgent investigation by local authorities.

A Howell Township police officer found the 46-year-old driver on Old Tavern Road with visible facial injuries. The driver, who works for a taxi service based in Asbury Park, reported that the assault occurred after he dropped off the suspects near Oak Glen Park. Authorities confirmed the attack involved a knife, which was used to slash the victim’s face.

The two suspects had arranged their ride from Neptune, New Jersey, and after the driver had taken them to the parking lot, they assaulted him and fled with the taxi. Within a short time, police located the abandoned taxi on Maxim Road. A K-9 unit was deployed to track down the suspects, and detectives commenced processing the vehicle for any potential evidence that could lead to their identification.

Authorities described the suspects as Hispanic males, aged between 18 and 24, both wearing dark attire and conversing in Spanish at the time of the incident. One suspect was noted to have black hair. After the attack, the pair disappeared from the scene, prompting concern about their whereabouts.

The victim was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center, where he received treatment for a facial laceration. He is currently reported to be in stable condition, yet the incident continues to raise alarm within the community about safety for service workers.

Local police are appealing to the public for assistance in this case. Anyone with information that could aid in identifying the suspects is encouraged to reach out to Detective Vincent Bonner at the Howell Township Police Department.
