Chicago weekend gun violence leaves two dead, teenager shot in South Loop incident

Chicago, Illinois – Over the weekend, Chicago experienced a surge in gun violence, with fifteen individuals falling victim to shootings, resulting in two tragic fatalities, according to authorities. One of the victims, a teenager, lost his life after being shot in the parking lot of a bank in Downtown Chicago. The incident took place on Saturday evening in the South Loop area near West Roosevelt Road and Canal Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds, both immediately transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. Tragically, the 17-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries, while a 15-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to the leg but is in fair condition. A suspect is in custody, and a firearm was recovered by Chicago police.

In another separate incident, a life was taken at a stop sign on Chicago’s Southwest Side late Saturday night. The shooting took place on South Trumbell Avenue in Little Village, where suspects from a white sedan opened fire on the victims inside a stopped vehicle. A 22-year-old man was fatally shot in the head, and a 17-year-old boy sustained a leg injury. The 17-year-old is currently in fair condition at Mt. Sinai hospital.

The investigation into the shooting on the Southwest Side is being handled by Area Four detectives as a homicide case. This recent spate of gun violence underscores the ongoing challenges that law enforcement and communities in Chicago face in combating crime and ensuring public safety.
