Competence Evaluation Shows Atlanta Shooter Unfit for Trial in Midtown Killing Spree

Atlanta, Georgia – A court-ordered psychologist has determined that Raissa Kengne, the woman accused of a shooting spree in midtown Atlanta in August 2022, is not fit to stand trial, according to recent court filings. Prosecutors have accepted this assessment, leading to a ruling by a Fulton County Superior Court judge officially declaring Kengne unfit for trial.

Kengne, 34, is accused of shooting three individuals at the 1280 West condos and an office building at 110 Peachtree Street, resulting in the deaths of two men, Michael Shinners and Wesley Freeman. Another victim, Michael Horne, survived his injuries and was later discharged from the hospital.

Following the shootings, Kengne called for a taxi from Atlanta Checker Cab to transport her to a residence on Robin Hood Road NE in Ansley Park. Despite claiming it was her lawyer’s home, no one answered the door, prompting Kengne’s return to the cab. She eventually requested to be taken to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where she was apprehended by ATF task force officers at the terminal.

Investigations into Kengne’s background have uncovered information from her social media profiles, including her LinkedIn account, where she made references to her employment at an accounting firm until November 2021. Additionally, Kengne mentioned the location of one of the shootings and described one of the victims, Freeman, as the “laziest manager” she had worked for. Notably, Freeman was among several individuals listed in a federal lawsuit filed by Kengne in 2022, alleging various forms of mistreatment.

The lawsuit detailed instances of retaliation, harassment, and other troubling behavior that Kengne claimed to have experienced after raising concerns about an audit discrepancy. The outcome of Kengne’s case remains uncertain, leaving unanswered questions about potential next steps in the legal proceedings.
