Corrections Deputy Killed in Senseless Opelousas Shooting Incident

Opelousas, La. – A tragic incident has rocked the community of Opelousas, Louisiana as an off-duty St. Landry Parish Jail corrections deputy lost her life and another individual remains hospitalized following a shooting.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff, Bobby Guidroz, confirmed the heartbreaking news of the death of Chanterria “Macky” Albert, a 23-year-old corrections deputy who had dedicated nearly two years to her service at the jail. Sheriff Guidroz expressed deep sorrow over the senseless act of gun violence that claimed Deputy Albert’s life, highlighting her exemplary service and the impact of her loss on the entire department.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday night, when the Opelousas police received reports of shots fired in the 1100 block of Park Avenue just before 10:30 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered shell casings and were informed that two individuals had been shot and taken to the hospital.
