CTA Bus Shooting in Bronzeville Leaves One Dead – Driver Injured

Chicago, Illinois – A tragic shooting incident unfolded on a CTA bus in the Bronzeville neighborhood, leaving one man dead and the bus driver injured. The chaotic scene erupted on Monday around 12:14 a.m. as the bus traversed the 3400-block of State Street.

According to reports, a violent altercation erupted onboard the #29 State Street bus, culminating in a passenger brandishing a gun and firing upon another individual. The victim, a man in his late 20s, sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The CTA driver also suffered a gunshot wound to the right shoulder but is expected to survive.

Keith Hill, the President of ATU Local 241, expressed deep concern over the safety of bus drivers, emphasizing the need for increased security measures. The assailant managed to escape on foot following the shooting, leaving the bus driver struggling to maintain control as the bus careened into a curb.

In a statement condemning the violence, Dorval R. Carter, the president of the Chicago Transportation Authority, underscored the zero-tolerance policy towards gun violence and pledged to collaborate with law enforcement to bring the perpetrator to justice. The police, in conjunction with CTA officials, are currently reviewing surveillance footage to gather more information on the incident.

Despite ongoing efforts, no arrests have been made, prompting CPD Area One Detectives to launch a homicide investigation.
