Detained Person Found After Fatal North Portland Hotel Shooting

Portland, Oregon – A shooting at a North Portland hotel early Wednesday morning led to the death of one man and the subsequent detainment of a suspect after a lengthy search by the police. The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m., prompting officers to respond to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of Quality Inn & Suites along Northeast 82nd Avenue.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered a man with injuries who was later pronounced dead at a hospital after being transported via ambulance. The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) issued a statement stating that the man’s death is being investigated as a homicide. Despite no immediate arrests, law enforcement deployed a Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and crisis negotiators to secure the crime scene, keeping the hotel parking lot closed during the investigation.

As the investigation unfolded throughout the day, the PPB announced in a subsequent news release that SERT had concluded their search of the hotel premises at 2:40 p.m. A person was detained around 1:13 p.m. for further investigation, although specific details about the detainment’s circumstances were not disclosed by the police.
