Elderly Couple Attacked: Family Demands Maximum Penalty for Suspect in Honolulu Incident

HONOLULU, Hawaii – Loved ones of an elderly couple who were attacked on Friday are demanding the harshest penalty for the suspect involved in the assault. The granddaughter of the 72-year-old victim expressed shock, anger, and a desire for justice following the disturbing incident.

As of Saturday evening, it remained uncertain whether an arrest had been made in connection with the assault. Mariah Schlegel, the granddaughter of the female victim, expressed her deep emotions and frustration over the violent attack on her grandmother.

Schlegel, who was located 3,000 miles away in Seattle, received a distressing video from her mother capturing the assault on her grandmother in an apartment parking garage along Kalakaua Avenue. The altercation occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Friday, leaving the family shaken and seeking accountability for the perpetrator.

In the video, it shows the elderly woman confronting a food delivery driver parked in a prohibited spot, leading to a physical altercation where the victim was knocked down. Despite the assault, the woman attempted to reach for the driver’s phone to call for help, but the situation escalated when her 65-year-old partner intervened, causing the attacker to turn on him as well.

The 72-year-old victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition following the incident, prompting calls from State Representative Adrian Tam for cooperation from the delivery company to assist law enforcement in apprehending the suspect responsible for the assault. Tam emphasized the need to prioritize the safety and well-being of seniors in the community, advocating for increased penalties for crimes targeted against individuals aged 60 and older.

The family expressed gratitude for the support and encouragement from the public during this challenging time and urged anyone with information on the suspect to contact the authorities. The community rallied behind the victims, condemning the violence and standing in solidarity with the affected family during this difficult period.
