Electric scooter crash in New Castle leaves one man dead after collision with Honda Accord

New Castle, Delaware – A tragic incident occurred in New Castle last night, where the Delaware State Police are currently investigating a fatal crash involving an electric scooter that resulted in the death of one man. The incident took place at the intersection of New Castle Avenue and Memorial Drive at around 8:46 p.m. on May 26, 2024.

Authorities reported that a 2015 Honda Accord was heading northbound in the left turn lane on New Castle Avenue, while a Tifgalop K-8 electric scooter was traveling southbound towards the same intersection. Due to the dark conditions and lack of proper lighting on the scooter, the driver of the Honda failed to see the approaching vehicle as they attempted to make a left turn onto Memorial Drive. Tragically, the scooter collided with the right side of the Honda within the intersection.

The rider of the electric scooter, who was not wearing a safety helmet or reflective clothing, sustained critical injuries in the crash. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, the unidentified man succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Authorities have decided to withhold the victim’s identity until his family has been properly notified.

Meanwhile, the 50-year-old female driver of the Honda, hailing from Wilmington, was also taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation following the collision. The investigation into the incident caused the closure of the roadway for approximately three hours as authorities worked to clear the scene and gather relevant evidence for further analysis.
