Ex-boyfriend shoots pregnant Texas woman and her new boyfriend in their car

ARLINGTON, TX – The bustling lanes of Interstate 20 became the backdrop for a deadly confrontation earlier this month as a young woman’s life, and that of her unborn child, ended in gunfire, according to police.

Late in the evening, Bre’Asia Johnson, 29, was riding westbound through Arlington with her boyfriend and two children when their journey was violently interrupted. Shots were fired into their car, striking both adults inside and shattering the calm on a busy stretch of the highway.

Authorities say the car’s driver, Johnson’s boyfriend, managed to pull off the freeway and stopped at a nearby QuikTrip gas station on Little Road as emergency services were called. Although the children escaped serious injury, Johnson was found unresponsive in the front passenger seat. Efforts to save her were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene just before 8 p.m., police said. Her boyfriend survived, suffering gunshot wounds, and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The shocking incident left the community reeling as investigators combed through evidence scattered along I-20. The investigation, which spanned interviews and a meticulous search of surveillance footage, soon uncovered that the shooting was not random. Police later announced the arrest of Malik Miner, 29, who now faces murder, deadly conduct, and aggravated assault charges.

Forensic teams located shell casings of two separate calibers at the scene. In the hail of bullets that tore through the family’s vehicle, another unrelated car was also hit, though its occupants escaped harm.

Detectives explained that initial theories of road rage quickly shifted as new information came to light. The alleged shooter, Miner, had previously been romantically involved with Johnson, and there was reportedly ongoing conflict with Johnson’s boyfriend. This personal link, police allege, transformed the investigation’s focus toward a targeted act.

Digital evidence played a key role in piecing together the case. Following a search warrant at Miner’s home, investigators seized his mobile phone, uncovering communication between him and Johnson’s boyfriend. Additionally, location records from both Miner’s and Johnson’s phones indicated parallel movements leading up to the shooting, with the data suggesting Miner followed Johnson’s car in the moments before the attack.

While the children in the car did not sustain serious injuries from the gunfire, police noted that one was grazed by flying glass from a shattered window, a grim reminder of the chaos inside the car. Detectives also confirmed Johnson was pregnant at the time of her death, adding another tragic layer to the case.

After his arrest, Miner reportedly declined to provide a statement to investigators. He remains in custody as the legal process continues.

The Arlington Police Department has emphasized that their investigation is ongoing, and additional details may emerge as they work to bring justice to the victims and their families.
