Fatal Drive-By Shooting in Fort Lauderdale Leaves One Dead, Four Injured and Police Seeking Community Help

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A tragic incident unfolded in Fort Lauderdale as one man lost his life and four others were rushed to the hospital after a drive-by shooting on Friday evening, according to authorities. The deceased victim was identified as 33-year-old Michael McKinney.

Fort Lauderdale Police made a swift effort to locate the vehicle involved in the shooting but are now seeking assistance from the public in their search for suspects, highlighting the urgency in bringing those responsible to justice.

McKinney’s fiance, Tarnecia Burch, described him as a devoted father and a fighter who always strived to make amends for his mistakes. The couple shared a 2-year-old son, and McKinney also had an 8-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

The shooting took place in the 2300 block of Northwest Eighth Street, where first responders found the five victims. They were all quickly transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where McKinney was sadly pronounced dead. One of the men remains in critical condition while the other three are expected to recover.

Detectives revealed that the shooter or shooters fled the scene before law enforcement arrived in the area, leaving behind a harrowing crime scene in the neighborhood west of Interstate 95. Despite this, authorities managed to locate the vehicle involved in the shooting and initiated a thorough investigation.

Burch shared that McKinney was targeted by someone who had abruptly opened fire from a van, leaving her with more questions than answers about the senseless act of violence. Despite McKinney’s troubled past, he had made significant efforts to turn his life around and had secured a job.

Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to contact Fort Lauderdale Police immediately or provide tips anonymously through Broward County Crime Stoppers. This plea for assistance underscores the community’s role in helping authorities solve such heinous crimes and bring closure to grieving families.
