Fatal Shooting of 21-Year-Old Anthony Lambert Jr. Rocks West Birmingham

Birmingham, Alabama – Authorities revealed the identity of a young man who was fatally shot in a residential area of west Birmingham. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the victim as 21-year-old Anthony Lambert Jr., a resident of Birmingham.

The tragic incident unfolded around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday in the 5700 block of Court I in Ensley, just off Vinesville Road near Fairfield and Miles College. Upon receiving a Shot Spotter alert regarding gunfire, law enforcement responded to find Lambert unresponsive in front of a home on 58th Street. Despite efforts by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, Lambert was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:43 p.m.

According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, the shooting followed some form of altercation between the victim and one or more assailants. The specifics of the dispute remain unclear as authorities continue their investigation. Witnesses reported that there may have been more than one shooter involved in the incident.

As detectives and officers delved into the case, a person of interest associated with the shooting expressed a desire to surrender, with the assistance of a family member at the scene. While no formal charges have been filed as of yet, the authorities remain vigilant in their pursuit of justice.

Fitzgerald noted that approximately 10 gunshots were fired during the altercation, raising concerns about the safety of the residential neighborhood. Despite the tragic outcome, authorities expressed gratitude that no additional individuals were harmed.

The untimely death of Anthony Lambert Jr. marks the 42nd homicide in Birmingham this year, contributing to a total of 61 homicides thus far in Jefferson County. Law enforcement officials urge anyone with pertinent information to come forward by contacting the homicide detectives or Crime Stoppers.
