Birmingham, Alabama – Authorities in Birmingham and Fairfield have identified the victims of weekend shootings as Traiquielle Raheem Chambers, 29, and Paul Justin Stanley, 35, both residents of Birmingham. Chambers was found shot on Saturday evening in the 1400 block of First Avenue West. The city’s gunfire detection system alerted officers to the incident, with shell casings found at the scene.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade stated that Chambers collapsed in the middle of the street and was pronounced dead shortly after. Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was involved in a verbal altercation prior to the shooting. Witnesses in the area may provide valuable information about the events leading up to the incident.
In a separate incident, Stanley was fatally shot at a Fairfield hotel earlier on the same day. Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and apprehended the suspect without further incident. Stanley was pronounced deceased at the hotel, with no details on the shooting released by authorities at this time.
Formal charges against the suspect in Stanley’s killing have not been disclosed. Anyone with information on Chambers’ death is urged to contact Birmingham detectives or Crime Stoppers. The investigations into both incidents are ongoing as authorities gather more details on the tragic events that unfolded over the weekend in Birmingham and Fairfield.
