Father Mourns Loss of Prom-Weekend Son to Tragic Shooting

COLUMBUS, Ga. – A community in Georgia mourns the tragic loss of a promising 16-year-old Manchester High School student, Daryus Bryant, who was fatally shot during his prom weekend. Described by school officials as excelling both academically and athletically, Daryus was known as a well-liked and humble individual.

The shooting took place early Sunday morning at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Crystal Drive in Columbus, where Daryus and another student, Clarence Favors, were found suffering from gunshot wounds in separate cars. Despite efforts to save him, Daryus succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital, while Clarence underwent surgery for his wounds.

Daryus’ father, Cartarsman Bryant, expressed his heartbreak over his son’s untimely passing, emphasizing the need for stricter gun laws and political action to address the escalating issue of gun violence in the community. He described Daryus as a homebody who was not involved in any gang activities, contrary to assumptions made by some.

Known as “D.B.” in his community, Daryus was a standout student-athlete who excelled in football, basketball, and track at Manchester High. With several college offers and a promising future ahead of him, his sudden death has left a void in the lives of many who knew and loved him.

As the investigation into Daryus’ tragic death continues, his father sends a powerful message to the perpetrator, emphasizing the devastation caused by taking the life of an innocent and beloved member of the community. This senseless act of violence has not only robbed Daryus of a bright future but has also left a deep impact on his family, friends, and the community as a whole.

Sadly, Daryus Bryant is the second Manchester High School student to fall victim to gun violence in the past year, highlighting the urgent need for measures to address this growing concern. With no arrests made thus far, the community remains on edge, seeking justice for Daryus and his family as they navigate through this difficult time.
