Fear Grips Doma Community as Armed Bandits Launch Violent Attack Despite Peace Deal

Doma, Nigeria — Residents of the Doma community in Katsina State’s Faskari Local Government Area are once again engulfed in fear following a recent raid by armed bandits that left destruction in its wake. This violent episode comes just after an agreement aimed at reducing hostilities had reportedly been established between local authorities and the armed groups.

Multiple sources indicated on Tuesday that the attackers descended upon Doma in large numbers, unleashing gunfire on civilians and setting homes and vehicles ablaze. The community is reeling from the shock of this escalation, particularly as it undermines previous efforts to restore peace.

Security experts have confirmed the attack, with local analyst Bakatsine highlighting the seriousness of the situation. He noted that surrounding communities are also at risk and underscored the urgent need for law enforcement to be deployed to the area. “Immediate action is crucial to safeguard civilians and prevent further violence,” he stated.

As of this report, concerns over potential casualties loom large, although precise numbers of fatalities or injuries have not been verified independently. Faskari LGA has a troubling history of violence, plagued by repeated attacks, kidnappings, and mass displacements due to banditry over the years.

This recent bout of violence starkly contrasts a notable development from September 17, 2025, when a notorious bandit leader released 28 people who had been taken captive, a decision attributed to a peace agreement. Many of those freed were residents of villages including Mairua, Kanen-haki, and Yar Dabaru, highlighting the complexity of the peace efforts in the region.

Local authorities have reiterated that this release was a sign of positive strides towards reconciliation. Community leaders expressed their hope that such developments would continue, urging the bandit factions to halt ongoing violence that threatens their stability.

Meanwhile, another security expert, Zagazola Makama, has reported that community leaders remain optimistic about ongoing reconciliation efforts. However, they have also implored the bandit leader to intervene with other factions that continue to perpetrate violence in the area.

The ongoing turmoil in Doma and surrounding regions emphasizes the pressing need for effective security measures. With countless lives disrupted and communities facing uncertainty, the call for immediate action is more critical than ever to ensure the safety of civilians in this beleaguered part of Nigeria.
