Felony Charges and Extradition for Wake Forest Man in Sylva Attack

The arrest of Edwin Emery Scott, 43, involves several felony charges, including assault by strangulation, larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, and an extradition order for a fugitive from another state. In addition, Scott faces a misdemeanor count of communicating threats related to the incident. The incident, which took place on June 8, resulted in injuries to the alleged victim, according to court records.

Scott, who has a history of felony convictions in North Carolina, was found in possession of the victim’s Glock 26 9mm handgun, despite being prohibited from owning firearms due to his criminal record. His criminal record includes convictions dating back to 1997 in various counties for offenses such as breaking and entering, assault, larceny, possession of stolen goods, and forgery. Additionally, he was wanted by U.S. Marshals for a parole violation in Pennsylvania.

If convicted of the recent charges, Scott could face further imprisonment. Assault by strangulation, larceny of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon all carry significant penalties under North Carolina law, ranging from months to years of incarceration.

Scott was taken into custody on June 16 following a warrant issued by Sylva Police. He was booked into the Jackson County Detention Center, although his status at the facility is currently unknown.
