Firefighter Faces Felony Charges After Violent Attack on Teens Pulling Prank in Lighthouse Point

Lighthouse Point, Fla. — A local firefighter faces serious legal troubles following an alleged violent incident involving a group of teenagers who reportedly played a harmless prank at his residence. The confrontation escalated dramatically, resulting in multiple felony charges against 31-year-old Alex Lutz, a member of Highland Beach Fire Rescue.

The Lighthouse Point Police Department reported that the events unfolded on the evening of November 23. Lutz reportedly reacted with aggression after a group of teens on a golf cart engaged in a prank known as “ding dong ditch,” where they rang his doorbell and quickly fled. Witnesses claim that Lutz emerged from his home wielding a baseball bat, giving chase to the young pranksters.

According to investigators, the situation took a dangerous turn when Lutz caught up with the teenagers. Surveillance footage captured the harrowing scene, which included audio of the teens screaming in distress. Reports indicate that Lutz threatened them verbally while allegedly striking them and damaging the golf cart with the bat.

Several teenagers sustained injuries as a result of the encounter. Following the incident, Lutz voluntarily turned himself into law enforcement the following Monday. After being processed, he was released on bond the next day.

Lutz is facing an array of charges, including two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of criminal mischief. The severity of these charges reflects the potential consequences of his actions that night.

Highland Beach Fire Rescue has acknowledged the situation in a public statement, confirming that Lutz has been placed on paid administrative leave while an internal review is conducted. The department emphasized its commitment to ensuring that all employees adhere to professional standards and conduct.

As the investigation continues, it serves as a stark reminder of how quickly a seemingly innocuous prank can escalate into a serious confrontation, raising questions about community safety and the responsibilities of public service professionals.
