Florida man stabbed by wife as she rants about sacrificing him and their son

SEMINOLE, FL – A tense morning in a quiet Seminole neighborhood erupted into chaos Tuesday, as a woman’s alleged violent outburst left her husband wounded and rattled a peaceful street near Tampa Bay.

Pinellas County deputies were dispatched around 8:15 a.m. to a residence on Tara Cay Court, where they were met by a man in a blood-stained bathrobe, clutching his arm. He had a painful gash—a wound, he told authorities, inflicted by his wife in a pair of terrifying attacks that played out throughout the early hours.

According to investigators, the harrowing ordeal began just after sunrise. The man reported that Karen Ruth Dedert, his 58-year-old wife, woke him abruptly with an unsettling question about the whereabouts of their son. When pressed for explanation, Dedert reportedly declared her intent to “sacrifice and kill” both family members. Within moments, she allegedly lunged at her husband with a large knife.

Managing to disarm her, the man retreated to a downstairs bedroom, barricading himself inside as he waited out the lingering threat. Hours ticked by in tense silence, broken only when he cautiously left the room, hoping her rage had passed.

The brief period of calm proved deceptive. After a nonviolent run-in with Dedert, the husband attempted to resume normal activities, even stepping in for a shower. But disaster struck again. Exiting the bathroom, he found himself ambushed a second time as Dedert, reportedly lying in wait behind the refrigerator, leapt toward him with another knife. The attack targeted his stomach, but once again, he fended her off, this time suffering a slashing injury to his arm in the scuffle.

Relentless, Dedert allegedly shouted repeated threats to kill during their struggle for the weapon. Ultimately, her husband managed to free himself, escaping the house and calling for emergency help.

When deputies entered the scene, the suspect was found inside and surrendered without resistance. Authorities said Dedert initially declined to speak after being read her legal rights, but later remarked that she had changed clothes since the time of the stabbing.

Dedert was arrested and charged with first-degree attempted murder, marked as a domestic offense. She was processed into the county jail and held without bond pending her initial court appearance.

By Wednesday, a judge agreed to set bond at $100,000 under strict conditions. Court orders require Dedert to wear a GPS monitor, prohibit her from contacting her husband, and allow only a supervised visit home to collect belongings if she is released.

Neighbors on Tara Cay Court remained shaken by the events, with many expressing disbelief that such violence could erupt on their tranquil cul-de-sac. Officials have not publicly discussed what may have spurred Dedert’s actions, and no further details about the family’s history have been released as the investigation continues.
