Phoenix, Arizona – A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning in Santan, a community within the Gila River Indian Community. Law enforcement officers responded to a disturbance call that resulted in a shooting, claiming the life of one police officer and leaving another wounded.
The Gila River Police Department received a 911 call reporting a disturbance at a residence in District 4 of the Gila River Indian Community around 2 a.m. Upon arrival, officers encountered a large crowd where gunfire erupted, injuring two officers and four others.
Among the victims was Gila River Police Officer Joshua Briese, who tragically succumbed to his injuries. The second officer wounded in the incident was reported to be in stable condition at a local hospital. Additionally, another individual involved in the shooting did not survive.
Officer Briese, a member of a law enforcement family, tragically followed in his father’s footsteps, who also died in the line of duty. The Gila River Police Department expressed their condolences, acknowledging the sacrifices made by both father and son in their service to the community.
