Gunman in Lewiston Shooting Died of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound: Autopsy Report Uncovers Details

AUGUSTA, Maine – The autopsy report of Robert Card, the gunman responsible for the tragic shooting that claimed the lives of 18 individuals in Lewiston last October, has been released. The report confirms that Card died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. However, the report does not specify the exact time of his death.

According to the autopsy findings, Card’s body was discovered at 7:45 p.m. on October 27, 2023, inside a trailer at Maine Recycling Corporation in Lisbon. This discovery marked the end of a two-day manhunt conducted by law enforcement officials. A statement issued in November of the same year suggested that Card likely passed away eight to 12 hours before his body was found.

Surprisingly, the final autopsy report obtained by The New York Times and shared with WMTW-TV does not include this specific timeframe of Card’s demise. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has chosen not to disclose further details or make the report public, citing privacy concerns and legal restrictions in the state of Maine.

Card’s family, however, shared the full autopsy report with a reporter from The New York Times. Additional insights regarding the autopsy and Card’s death are expected to be revealed in the coming week as members of the medical examiner’s office are scheduled to testify before the commission investigating the tragic shooting incident.
