Gunman wounds woman outside bar in Uniontown; kills another

Uniontown, Pennsylvania – A shooting outside a bar in Uniontown on Sunday night led to the death of one woman and the injury of another. The Uniontown police have charged a 21-year-old man, Andrew Maurice Howard, with homicide, aggravated assault, and illegal possession of a firearm. Howard, currently hospitalized with a gunshot wound, has yet to be arraigned.

Police responded to the incident at the Something Different bar on Austin St. Charging documents allege that Howard shot Shaquisa Sims and Jasmine Johnson. Sims, 32, was pronounced dead at WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital, an hour after the shooting. Fayette County Coroner Bob Baker confirmed Sims’ cause of death as a gunshot wound, ruling it as a homicide.

Witnesses at the scene identified Howard as the shooter. Johnson, 29, sustained a gunshot wound to her left wrist and is described as Howard’s girlfriend in court records. Three 9mm shell casings were recovered by the police.

Howard fled on foot initially but later showed up at Uniontown Hospital with a gunshot wound. Police spokesperson Tom Kolencik stated that it remains unclear how Howard sustained the gunshot wound. In addition to the major charges, Howard also faces allegations of simple assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of an instrument of crime.
