Healing: Orange Mound Community Unites for Block Party After Mass Shooting

Memphis, Tennessee – In the aftermath of a tragic mass shooting that shook the community, residents of Orange Mound are still on the path to healing. Despite the pain and trauma, hope and unity shined through as people came together for a block party aimed at bringing peace back to the neighborhood.

The block party, held at the Orange Mound Outreach Ministries, provided a safe space for residents to come together, enjoy good music, savor the aroma of grilling food, and share smiles with one another. Reverend Reginald Tucker, the organizer of the event known as Orange Mound in May, emphasized the importance of community and relationship-building during the gathering.

Reflecting on the significance of this year’s block party, Tucker expressed the deep impact that recent events had on the neighborhood. Just a month prior, a tragic shooting occurred only blocks away from the park where the block party took place, leaving nine individuals injured and two fatalities.

Since the shooting, Tucker has been tirelessly working to uplift and inspire the Orange Mound community, acknowledging the great need for healing and unity. He emphasized the importance of showing solidarity and resilience in the face of adversity, urging residents to come together without fear.

The block party not only attracted local residents but also garnered support from neighboring communities, with churches from Bartlett and Germantown joining in to demonstrate their belief in the power of unity and collective healing. The event served as a beacon of hope and a reminder that through coming together, communities can overcome tragedy and build a brighter future.
