Boulder City, Nevada – In a remarkable display of bravery and community spirit, off-duty Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Cesar Ibarra, 48, and his wife stepped in to protect a woman from a violent assault near their Boulder City home on January 24.
The incident unfolded around 9:16 a.m. when Boulder City Police received a distressing 911 call capturing sounds of a struggle. A woman’s voice could be heard reporting that her husband, later identified as 45-year-old Jeremiah Boshard, was armed and attacking her. Surveillance footage later confirmed Boshard assaulting the woman, prompting Officer Ibarra to intervene.
Identifying himself as a law enforcement officer, Officer Ibarra attempted to de-escalate the situation. However, despite orders to stop, Boshard persisted in his violent behavior, even turning his aggression towards Officer Ibarra. As tensions mounted, Boshard moved menacingly towards the group, leading Officer Ibarra and his wife to use their firearms in defense. Tragically, Boshard did not survive the encounter, while the assaulted woman suffered injuries that included facial bruising and signs of strangulation.
Authorities later revealed that had Boshard survived, he would have been charged with attempted murder and battery against a protected person. This harrowing incident underscores the importance of community awareness and the willingness to intervene in order to protect others in peril.
The courageous actions of Officer Ibarra and his wife serve as a powerful reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement officers, even when off-duty. Their swift and decisive response likely prevented a more severe outcome for the victim and potentially saved lives. In times of crisis, it is individuals like Officer Ibarra and his wife who demonstrate the true meaning of service and sacrifice for the greater good of the community.
