HOUSTON, Texas — A homicide investigation is being conducted after a woman was shot and killed by a security guard at an apartment complex on the city’s south side Friday afternoon.
Police received a report of criminal mischief at the complex located at 2111 Holly Hall shortly before 12:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers quickly learned that the situation had escalated to a shooting incident.
Houston Police Department Sergeant Charles Lamonte reported that officers found the security guard injured at the scene. The guard was taken to the hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening. Details about the nature of her injuries have not been publicly disclosed. Inside an apartment unit, officers discovered a deceased woman, whose identity remains unknown.
Initial information suggests that a contractor, arriving at the complex for work, alerted a maintenance worker to the presence of the woman inside the apartment. This prompted the maintenance worker to notify the security guard, who then entered the apartment. Investigators state that an altercation ensued, leading to the security guard firing her weapon, resulting in the woman’s death.
At this point, the police have confirmed that the apartment unit was unoccupied prior to the incident, with no active lease reported at the time. The deceased woman’s background is still being investigated, and police are working to establish her identity.
Further details indicate that the security guard may have used a taser before the incident escalated to gunfire. However, authorities have not determined whether the woman was armed during the confrontation.
As the investigation unfolds, police are gathering evidence and statements from potential witnesses to piece together the events that led to this tragic incident. Houston’s community is left grappling with the implications of this shooting as law enforcement works to clarify the circumstances surrounding the case.
