Indiana man remarks on how much money a friend of a friend spent on his kid for Christmas and the friend shoots him

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Tensions between friends boiled over into violence just two days before Christmas in a quiet suburb of Indianapolis, leaving a young man dead and a community reeling with shock.

Authorities say 22-year-old Keymaree Fagin now faces serious charges, including murder and illegal firearm possession, after a confrontation involving several friends erupted in gunfire on December 23. The dispute allegedly centered around how Fagin intended to use money set aside for his own child’s Christmas—a decision others in the group strongly opposed.

The deadly sequence began when Logan Newman, 21, was behind the wheel that afternoon, accompanied by a woman in the passenger seat and another man. The friends were on their way to meet up with Fagin, who, according to investigators, was quick to flaunt a firearm he boasted about stealing as soon as he entered the vehicle.

With Fagin in tow, the group stopped at a Walmart where they picked up alcohol before heading to a secluded park on Blooming Grove Drive in Camby, just southwest of the city. Once parked, court documents say Fagin made a phone call to a friend who was incarcerated, telling him he planned to use the Christmas money for his child to deposit into the jailed friend’s commissary account. He even hinted—perhaps darkly—that he might soon join him behind bars.

Newman and the woman were disturbed by the plan. According to authorities, Newman urged Fagin not to divert the funds intended for his child, warning him it was a poor decision. The tension between the men escalated rapidly, reaching a breaking point when Fagin accused Newman of disrespecting him and his child.

Witnesses described a dramatic scene: Fagin grew increasingly agitated, loading and unloading his weapon as tempers flared inside the cramped car. As the argument intensified, Fagin’s anger seemed to spin out of control. He reportedly raised his firearm to Newman’s head, prompting Newman to suggest they take the fight outside the vehicle.

Instead, the situation spiraled into tragedy. According to statements from those present, Fagin refused to step out. With chilling resolve, he allegedly declared his intent to shoot, pressing the gun to Newman’s head and pulling the trigger multiple times.

After the shooting, Newman’s lifeless body slumped forward, foot still on the accelerator, sending the car crashing into a nearby tennis court fence. Officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived just before 1 p.m. to a chaotic scene. Within minutes, they had taken a suspect into custody.

Surveillance footage from the area reportedly captured both the shots fired from inside the vehicle and a man—believed to be Fagin—fleeing the scene moments after the crash. While in custody, Fagin is said to have admitted to arguing with Newman, but insisted the deadly shots were fired by someone outside the vehicle.

Newman was pronounced dead at the scene. He leaves behind a grieving fiancée, who is expecting their first child in July of next year.

Court records show Fagin faces additional charges related to his prior felony conviction and unlawful possession of a firearm. He is scheduled to face a jury trial in March 2026.

The violent episode has stunned the Camby community, leaving many to question how a heated disagreement could end with such a devastating loss just before the holidays.
