CLEVELAND, Ohio – A Cleveland woman faces serious charges after her alleged involvement in a fatal shooting that took the life of Antwoina Carter last month. Trinity Ford, 19, was indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury on counts of murder, felonious assault, and discharging a weapon on a public roadway. She is set to appear for arraignment in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and is currently being held on a $1 million bond.
Ford is accused of driving the car involved in the chase that led to Carter’s death on March 17. The passenger in her vehicle reportedly fired multiple shots at Carter on East 105th Street. Carter, a 26-year-old Cleveland resident, succumbed to her injuries, with the medical examiner ruling her death a homicide due to a gunshot wound to her back causing severe damage to her heart and spine.
In the midst of the chaos, two Cleveland police officers, responding to a disturbance complaint at Carter’s mother’s residence, became witnesses to the fatal shooting. After shots were fired by the officers in response to the escalating situation, the investigation was handed over to Cuyahoga County sheriff’s deputies due to police involvement. The County medical examiner’s office stated that initial tests did not attribute the decedent’s death directly to police actions.
With a firearm specification included in the indictment, Ford could face additional years in prison if convicted for discharging a weapon from a motor vehicle. Meanwhile, the shooter responsible for Carter’s death remains unidentified and at large.
