YARM, UNITED KINGDOM – A man, Jordan Kelly, has been sentenced to four years in prison for a violent attack on his ex-girlfriend’s new partner, the Teesside Crown Court announced. Kelly, aged 23, was under the influence of alcohol and armed with a knife when he went on a violent rampage at a block of flats in Yarm where his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend resided.
During the incident, Kelly was described as being in a “screaming rage” and made multiple death threats, along with physically assaulting the man. The court disclosed that Kelly admitted to charges including assault causing actual bodily harm. The prosecutor revealed that Kelly and the woman had been in a seven-year relationship before it ended in July 2023, which was marked by controlling and mentally abusive behavior from Kelly.
On the fateful day of the attack, Kelly confronted his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend at his flat, where he proceeded to make threats of violence, brandish a knife, and physically assault the man. The court heard that Kelly even expressed his intentions to kill the couple and himself during the altercation, showcasing the serious and dangerous nature of the incident.
Furthermore, Kelly’s ex-partner described him as “obsessed” with her, noting that she lived in fear of him. Both victims expressed their fear and trauma in statements read to the court, detailing the physical and emotional toll of the attack. Despite the severity of the incident, Kelly showed little remorse during the court proceedings, displaying disrespectful behavior towards the victims’ statements.
In addition to the assault charges, Kelly also faced charges for assaulting an emergency worker and making threats to kill. The presiding judge, Recorder Melly KC, emphasized the prolonged and persistent nature of the attack, especially noting the use of a dangerous weapon in the assault. As a result, an indefinite restraining order was issued for both victims to protect them from any future harm from Kelly.
