Knife-Wielding Man Jailed for Violent Attack on Ex-Girlfriend’s Partner

Yarm, United Kingdom – A man has been sentenced to four years in prison for launching a violent attack on his ex-girlfriend’s new partner. Jordan Kelly, 23, was under the influence of alcohol and armed with a knife when he carried out the assault at a block of flats in Yarm, where his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend resided, according to the Teesside Crown Court.

The court was informed that Kelly was in a state of “screaming rage” during the incident, making numerous threats of death, punching, and biting his ex-girlfriend’s new partner. The prosecutor stated that Kelly, who had been in a relationship with the woman for approximately seven years before it ended in July 2023, had displayed controlling and mentally abusive behavior towards her.

On the 8th of September, Kelly went to the flat of his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend and confronted him angrily. The prosecutor revealed that Kelly threatened to kill the couple and himself, holding a 10-inch blade against the man’s throat and viciously assaulting him, causing injuries.

Kelly also engaged in a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend, and once he was apprehended, he resisted arrest by assaulting a police officer. The court heard that Kelly’s behavior throughout the ordeal was marked by intense rage, requiring the use of incapacitant spray to subdue him.

The victims recounted their experiences in statements to the court, with the male victim expressing genuine fear for his life and detailing the injuries he sustained. Kelly’s ex-partner described him as “obsessed” with her, causing her to live in constant fear.

Following his admission of guilt to a range of offenses including assault, possession of a bladed article, and making threats to kill, Kelly was sentenced by Recorder Melly KC, who characterized the attack as “prolonged and persistent” and involving a “highly dangerous weapon.” An indefinite restraining order was issued for the protection of both victims.
