SHREVEPORT, LA – A Shreveport man has been charged with murdering his mother, a respected teacher, in a disturbing case that has shaken the local community.
A Caddo Parish grand jury indicted Connor Lyons, 19, on Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder in connection with the death of his mother, Lara Lyons, 55. He also faces charges of battery on a police officer and resisting arrest, according to the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office.
The incident traces back to the morning of May 23, when deputies with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at a home on Double A Drive in Shreveport. Authorities said a family member reported the incident, telling operators that his brother had killed their mother.
When law enforcement arrived, deputies located Connor Lyons sitting on the back steps of the family’s residence. Upon entering the home, deputies found Lara Lyons deceased in her bedroom. Investigators later determined that she died after being stabbed multiple times as she slept.
Connor Lyons was taken into custody at the scene and has remained at the Caddo Correctional Center since his arrest. His bond has been set at $2 million.
