Macomb County Man Charged in Connection with Fatal Mass Shooting at Detroit Dope House

Detroit, Michigan – A man from Macomb County is facing charges in connection with a deadly mass shooting at an alleged drug house in Detroit that left three men dead and two women injured.

Jony Saad Alatto, 32, of Macomb Township, was arraigned in 36th District Court in Detroit and is currently in jail, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. Reports indicate that after the shooting, Alatto allegedly robbed the individuals at the residence before fleeing the scene.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy commended the work of the Detroit Police Department and her office in bringing charges against Alatto. She expressed confidence that justice will be served in this case.

Alatto faces numerous charges, including three counts of felony murder, two counts of assault with intent to murder, five counts of armed robbery, one count of felon in possession of a firearm, and 11 counts of felony firearm. The victims of the shooting were identified as John Coffie Jr., 76, Alphonso Henry, 55, and Morriss Campbell Jr., 41, with two women aged 55 and 33 also among those injured.

The incident occurred in August 2022, with Detroit police responding to a shooting at a location known for narcotics activity. Multiple victims were found with gunshot wounds, leading to one death at the scene and two others succumbing to their injuries later on.

Alatto, who has a history of prior convictions related to violent offenses, is scheduled to appear in court for further proceedings. The case has raised concerns about gun violence and the impact of criminal activity on communities in Detroit.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the mass shooting and are working to ensure that all those involved are held accountable for their actions.
