Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting at Middle School Graduation Party, Chief Says

Macon, Georgia – A tragic incident unfolded at a middle school graduation party in Fort Valley, resulting in the death of 31-year-old Micah McCant. Police Chief DJ Flores revealed that McCant was shot while picking up his daughter at the event on Sunday evening.

An arrest was made on Wednesday in connection to the shooting, with authorities taking 36-year-old Dexter Oliver into custody on a murder charge. The encounter with Oliver occurred on Vienna Circle, leading to his apprehension by law enforcement.

The altercation at the Royal Town Homes apartment complex escalated when uninvited teenagers arrived, sparking a physical fight among attendees, according to Flores. The situation quickly escalated, resulting in gunfire that claimed the lives of McCant and another individual.

Flores indicated that the initial conflict involved the parents of some juveniles at the gathering, with a total of 10 adults present at the time. As the altercation escalated, shots were fired, causing chaos and tragedy.

Efforts are underway to search Oliver’s grandmother’s residence, where authorities suspect he resides.
