ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. – A 15-year-old girl tragically lost her life in Round Lake Beach, and now a 19-year-old man is facing charges in connection with her death. Shorbonia Poole, Jr. of Round Lake Beach was found to be in possession of the firearm used in the shooting, according to the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.
Authorities reported that the gun was seized during a search of Poole’s residence following the incident. The victim, Valeria Rodriguez, was struck by a stray bullet while having dinner in her home on Cherokee Drive. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she did not survive her injuries.
The shooting took place when someone outside the residence fired a gun, with the stray bullet entering the home and hitting the unsuspecting girl. Police stated that there was no indication that Rodriguez was deliberately targeted in the incident.
