Man from Earlville Faces Charges in Violent Attack and Home Invasion

Sycamore, Illinois – A man from Earlville faces charges of a violent attack and home invasion, resulting in his arrest for allegedly choking and beating a woman while attempting to escape during a drive, threatening her life, and breaking into her home in Shabbona.

Steven S. Frangoules, 32, was charged with multiple counts of aggravated domestic battery, unlawful restraint, criminal trespass to property, and home invasion, according to recent court records filed in DeKalb County. If convicted of home invasion, a Class X felony, Frangoules could potentially serve six to 30 years in prison.

Frangoules appeared in court for an initial hearing where Judge Jospeh Pedersen ordered him to be held at DeKalb County Jail without release until trial. Prosecutors argued against Frangoules’ release, citing the severe nature of his charges and his history of criminal acts, indicating a risk to the victim’s safety.

During the incident on April 15, Frangoules assaulted the woman multiple times while traveling from a bar to an apartment in Shabbona, leaving the victim with visible injuries. The woman reported that Frangoules became enraged over her interactions with his friends, leading to a series of violent assaults during the drive.

Despite attempts to flee, the woman was repeatedly attacked by Frangoules, who allegedly threatened to kill her and prevented her from escaping multiple times. The situation escalated even further when they arrived at the woman’s home in Shabbona, where Frangoules forced his way into the residence and continued his violent actions inside.

Ultimately, the woman managed to escape from Frangoules, seeking refuge at a neighbor’s house and contacting 911 for assistance. Frangoules’ aggressive behavior persisted even after her escape, with reports indicating that he made threats of future harm towards the victim.

In a subsequent court appearance, Judge Pederson highlighted the concerning details from police reports, underscoring the potential danger Frangoules posed to the victim if released. The case will proceed to arraignment on May 9, as authorities work to ensure the safety of the victim and address the serious charges against Frangoules.
