PENN TOWNSHIP, PA – A Pennsylvania man is facing serious charges, including murder and assault, after authorities say he killed his mother, drove her body to his sister’s house, and concealed it with household items. Kevin Ahn, 31, is accused of murdering his mother, Hyun Ahn, 61, in Owings Mills, Maryland, sometime in March. Her death was ruled a homicide resulting from strangulation and a traumatic brain injury, according to officials.
Prosecutors in Baltimore County have initiated murder charges, asserting that the incident occurred in Owings Mills, where Hyun Ahn lived. The chilling discovery unfolded last month after Kevin Ahn made an unexpected visit to his estranged sister’s home in Penn Township, PA.
According to a police statement, Ahn’s sister notified authorities following what she described as a “suspicious incident” involving her brother. Kevin Ahn, who is described as transient and generally unwelcome at his sister’s residence, arrived driving their mother’s 2022 Toyota Rav 4. Suspicious behavior prompted the sister and her husband to investigate further, ultimately leading them to the grim discovery.
In the back seat of the vehicle, the couple allegedly found a body, later identified as their mother, partially obscured by boxes, fast-food wrappers, and miscellaneous household items. Initial charges in Lancaster County cited Kevin Ahn for abuse of a corpse.
During a preliminary hearing, law enforcement testified that Hyun Ahn had been deceased for 30 to 40 hours prior to being found in the vehicle.
Despite the grave accusations, Ahn’s defense attorney provided an unusual explanation for the concealment, suggesting that Ahn was engaged in a form of mourning, likened to “dressing up a skeleton,” indicating there was no intent to desecrate the body.
