MIDDLEBOROUGH, MA – Authorities in Middleborough have charged a 41-year-old man with murder after a deadly confrontation left his mother’s longtime partner dead, following what family members described as a years-long feud.
Police arrested Andrew Horsman on Sunday night after responding to a series of 911 calls reporting a fight in a suburban neighborhood. Officers who arrived at the scene around 8 p.m. found 66-year-old Paul Pomerleau suffering from several stab wounds. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Pomerleau was pronounced dead.
Investigators stated that Horsman and Pomerleau, his mother’s partner, had gotten into a heated argument leading up to the stabbing. Several witnesses were present during the altercation and provided statements to authorities at the scene, according to police.
Relatives of the victim told authorities and neighbors that tensions between Horsman and Pomerleau had been simmering for years and that the dispute reached its breaking point over the weekend. While law enforcement has not released details about what sparked Sunday’s deadly confrontation, family members said longstanding disagreements between the two men often resulted in friction.
One neighbor, who had known Pomerleau for decades, described him as a generous and caring figure in the community, emphasizing his willingness to help others. The victim’s family released a statement praising him as a devoted father and grandfather, noting the lasting impact he had on those around him.
Horsman was taken into custody at the scene without resistance, police said. He faces a murder charge brought by the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and was slated for arraignment in Wareham District Court on Monday.
Authorities have not indicated whether Horsman has retained legal counsel, and no further details on the motive have been provided as the investigation continues.
Police said the incident was not random and that there is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood following Horsman’s arrest. The case remains under active investigation by local law enforcement. Anyone with additional information about the incident has been urged by police to come forward as officials continue gathering evidence and witness accounts.
