Minneapolis, Minnesota – A man injured in a mass shooting in Minneapolis late last month has passed away, as reported by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office. Mohamed Bashir Aden, 36, was shot multiple times on May 30th on the 2200 block of Blaisdell Avenue and succumbed to his injuries more than a week later at Hennepin Healthcare.
Aden’s death marks the fourth fatality linked to the violence that began with a reported shooting on that fateful day. Among the casualties was Minneapolis police officer Jamal Mitchell, who was shot while attempting to provide medical aid and later died at a hospital. The alleged shooter, identified as Mustafa Ahmed Mohamed, was killed in a subsequent shootout with law enforcement officers.
In addition to Aden and Mitchell, another person was found fatally shot in a nearby apartment building. Three more individuals – including another officer, a firefighter, and a civilian – sustained injuries during the violent incident, according to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
The circumstances surrounding Aden’s shooting remain unclear, as authorities continue to investigate the events of that tragic day. Mitchell, a devoted officer and father of four, will be remembered at a public service in Maple Grove on Tuesday.
It was revealed that Mohamed, the shooter involved in the incident, was not authorized to carry a firearm and had an active arrest warrant. The BCA is actively leading the ongoing investigation to uncover more details surrounding the shooting and its aftermath.
