MERRITT ISLAND, FL – A chilling courtroom decision has sealed the fate of a former mixed martial artist from Florida, who is set to serve 50 years in prison following the tragic shooting of his fiancée. Phillip Keller, 39, received his sentence under a plea agreement for the second-degree murder of Alicia Campitelli, aged 35, who was revered in her Merritt Island community for her skills as a piercing artist.
The tragic incident unfolded in May 2021 when a drug-fueled argument turned violently fatal. According to prosecutors, Campitelli attempted to distance herself from an escalating situation over Keller’s use of MDMA, also known as Molly. Keller, deeply under the influence at the time, shot Campitelli multiple times, leading to her untimely death.
A phone confession to a friend added weight to the case against Keller. In a deeply remorseful tone, Keller admitted over the call, “I killed her, bro… I don’t know how I did it, but I can’t live with myself knowing that.”
Emergency services rushed to the Merritt Island apartment following a call from Keller on the morning of May 14, 2021. Initially, Keller misled officers with claims of a botched robbery — a narrative that eventually unraveled under police interrogation, during which he revealed the argument over drug use had spiraled out of control into tragedy.
Keller, whose professional mixed martial arts career ended with a record of 2-6, struck a plea deal that makes him eligible for parole after 25 years.
The courtroom, filled with grieving family members, heard emotional statements during sentencing. Alicia’s mother, Debra Moore, spoke of the immense void left by her daughter’s death, and her father, Phil Campitelli, pointed to Keller’s addiction struggles as a catalyst for the tragedy.
Adding to the family’s anguish, it was revealed that Keller exploited Campitelli’s death to finance further drug purchases, misusing her car and bank account to withdraw over $1,400.
