Murder: New Details of Trail Attack and Unfolding Connections to Previous Crime Emerge

Bel Air, MD – Authorities in Harford County, Maryland, provided an update on the investigation into the death of 37-year-old mother Rachel Morin. The mother of five was found dead on a hiking trail six months ago after not returning from a run. The Harford Sheriff’s Department released new sketches of the suspect and a 40-minute podcast featuring Captain Andy Lane, who shared new details about the case.

According to Lane, they believe Morin was attacked on the Ma & Pa trail in Bel Air before being pulled into a drainage culvert where she lost her life. The authorities also revealed that they had been “leery about releasing too many details,” but they now believe the suspect was likely familiar with Morin and took advantage of an opportunity when she was briefly out of view.

The investigation into Morin’s murder began in August 2023 after her boyfriend reported her missing, and her body was discovered the following day along a hiking trail. Authorities also linked Morin’s murder to another unsolved crime in Los Angeles after recovering genetic material at the scene, leading to a breakthrough in the case.

The man seen in the Los Angeles crime footage left behind a hat at the home, which had DNA matching the genetic material found at the Morin crime scene. Lane revealed that the earlier Los Angeles incident was a violent attack, with multiple people and children injured. The LAPD is actively investigating that case, confirming that the suspect did not live at the home and was not known to anyone who lived there.

The authorities have received over 1,000 tips about Morin’s murder since August, but they emphasized that it’s important to remember that suspects can change their appearance. This update provides additional insight into the ongoing investigation and the efforts to bring those responsible for Rachel Morin’s death to justice.
