Murder on New Year’s Eve: Sterling Heights Man Charged in Stabbing of Milford Resident

Pontiac, Mich. — A man from Sterling Heights faces murder charges following the fatal stabbing of a Milford resident on New Year’s Eve, a violent act that has disturbed the calm of the usually serene community.

Milford Police Chief Scott Tarasiewicz described the incident as targeted violence rather than a random attack. The tranquil atmosphere of the neighborhood has been deeply affected by this incident, which has rattled the local populace.

Authorities were prompted to investigate when the victim’s girlfriend reported concerns about his well-being after not hearing from him for some time. Upon arriving at the residence, officers discovered 26-year-old Peyton Bilbia had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Working swiftly, the Milford Police collaborated with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office to identify a suspect within hours. They located and arrested 29-year-old Matthew Molinaro about 30 miles away in Royal Oak.

On Sunday, Molinaro was charged with first-degree murder at the 51st District Court in Novi. Authorities denied him bond, and he remains incarcerated in the Oakland County Jail. If he is found guilty, he could face a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Prosecutor Karen McDonald expressed grief over Bilbia’s tragic demise, calling it a heartbreaking reminder of the persistent dangers associated with domestic violence. “Peyton Bilbia should be with us today,” she stated, emphasizing that such violence does not dissipate even after a relationship has concluded.

Community members are left grappling with the shock of the incident, advocating for heightened awareness and prevention of domestic violence. Local leaders are planning discussions to address issues of safety and well-being in the wake of this traumatic event, hoping to restore the peace that has been disrupted.

Support resources are being shared widely to encourage those who may be in similar situations to seek help and ensure their safety. The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together more details surrounding the circumstances leading up to the stabbing.
