Murder Shock: Two Men Admit to Violent Killing of Greenock Resident Michael Beaton

Greenock, Scotland — Two men have pleaded guilty to the brutal murder of 35-year-old Michael Beaton, an incident that authorities have described as both “shocking and violent.” The fatal assault occurred on November 26, 2023, on Drumfrochar Road, where Beaton was struck by a vehicle and subsequently attacked with a knife.

Beaton was found with life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where he succumbed to his wounds. Following the attack, police began an extensive investigation that led to the eventual arrest of the suspects.

Richard Mullan, 21, was the first to admit his guilt in the High Court in Glasgow last November. His co-defendant, 27-year-old Alexander McQuillan, entered a similar plea during a subsequent court session. Both men are currently awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.

Authorities have made clear their commitment to tackling violent crime in the area, emphasizing that such incidents will not be tolerated. Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie expressed his condolences to Beaton’s family, stating that the convictions might offer them some measure of comfort as they navigate their loss.

The case has raised questions about the underlying issues of violence in the community, prompting calls for increased measures to ensure public safety. Local residents are increasingly concerned about such attacks and the impact on their neighborhoods.

Investigators continue to gather information as they strive to prevent further acts of violence. The community’s cooperation is seen as essential in supporting law enforcement efforts to maintain peace and safety in Greenock and surrounding areas.
