Murder Suspect Seeks Bond Reduction in Shocking Road-Rage Incident that Left Father Dead in Front of Daughters

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 75-year-old man implicated in a fatal road-rage incident is seeking a bond reduction as he awaits trial for the murder of a father of three. Terrell Eugene Giddens is accused of shooting 40-year-old Jeffrey Michael Guida in Lake Norman, a popular vacation spot north of Charlotte, on October 12, 2024.

According to authorities, the confrontation escalated shortly before 5 p.m. while Guida was driving with his three young daughters—ages 2, 11, and 13. Eyewitnesses reported that both men exited their vehicles before Giddens allegedly fired multiple shots into Guida’s Jeep Wagoneer. Thankfully, the children were not harmed during the incident.

Following the shooting, Giddens reportedly returned home, discarded his clothes in a trash bag, and changed into a new outfit. He then paddled away on a kayak to dispose of both the bag and the rifle believed to be used in the shooting, as noted by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Giddens’s attorney, Robert Campbell, has filed a motion arguing for a bond modification, stating that Giddens is “presumed innocent” and noting his significant ties to the local community. The court papers reveal that Giddens resides less than half a mile from where the shooting occurred and is a retired General Motors employee with a military background.

Guida’s family is actively campaigning against Giddens’ release, expressing their anguish and outrage over the situation. In a heartfelt message shared online, Karen Guida, Jeff’s wife, emphasized the trauma her daughters experienced on that fateful day. She urged the community to rally support against Giddens’ bid for bond, questioning how someone with such a serious allegation could be considered for release.

Described in his obituary as a “devoted husband” and “loving father,” Guida, originally from Lewiston, Maine, was remembered fondly by his family. His passions included hiking, cooking, and spending quality time with his children.

Giddens faces charges that include first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder. He is currently being held without bond as the legal proceedings continue, with his next court date yet to be announced. The case has sparked significant community attention, highlighting the emotional toll of violent incidents and the complexities surrounding bond decisions.
