NYC Subway Attack Suspect Previously Convicted of Stabbing Mom and Threatening Child

New York City, New York – A 35-year-old man with a history of violent crimes was arrested on suspicion of pushing his girlfriend onto subway tracks, resulting in both of her feet being severed by an incoming train, according to police sources. The suspect, Christian Valdez, had previously been convicted of attacking a woman and threatening her child during a home invasion in 2017, officials revealed.

The incident unfolded at the Fulton Street subway station in lower Manhattan, where Valdez was apprehended about 11 hours after the attack. Valdez, who was living in a women’s homeless shelter in Brooklyn, now faces charges of attempted murder and felony assault. The victim, a 29-year-old woman who remains unidentified, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition after the horrifying ordeal.

According to police reports, the altercation between Valdez and the victim escalated into a physical confrontation that culminated in the woman being pushed onto the subway tracks as a southbound train approached. The victim suffered severe injuries, having both her feet amputated as a result of the incident.

Valdez, who was scheduled for arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court, had a prior criminal record that included a 2020 conviction for second-degree attempted assault related to a stabbing incident in the Bronx. He had served eight years in prison before being released on parole just a few weeks before the subway station attack took place.

Witnesses described the previous 2017 attack involving Valdez breaking into an apartment, stabbing a woman, and threatening to harm her child by dangling her off a fire escape. Authorities confirmed that Valdez had a violent history and that his actions on both occasions were deemed extremely dangerous and detrimental to public safety.

As the investigation into the subway incident continues, authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to the violent altercation that left a woman severely injured. The case has raised concerns about repeat offenders like Valdez who pose a threat to the community, highlighting the need for stricter monitoring and intervention measures in cases involving individuals with a history of violence.
