Passenger Assaulted and Threatened to “F— Up” During American Airlines Flight Landing

Alexandria, Virginia – A Texas man was arrested by the FBI for alleged violent behavior towards passengers and flight attendants during an American Airlines flight from Wichita to Washington Reagan National Airport. The incident took place in early March, just five weeks after another American Airlines flight on the same route had crashed.

Asterius Rulamka, seated in the 14th row of the aircraft, reportedly threatened a flight attendant before assaulting a passenger who was recording the incident on video. Charging documents stated that Rulamka struck the passenger, causing bruising and injuries. He then attempted to strike another passenger, resulting in minor injuries.

Reports indicate that Rulamka’s behavior escalated as he began running up and down the cabin, prompting intervention from passengers and flight attendants to restrain him. Despite this, Rulamka continued to make alarming statements, including expressing a desire to speak to President Trump upon landing in D.C.

Court records revealed that Rulamka has a history of immigration violations, with pending proceedings related to the issue. Currently held in jail, Rulamka faces a federal assault charge and is set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing to determine his status pending trial.

The FBI, although not commenting directly on the case, maintains airport liaison agents in its field offices to investigate crimes committed aboard commercial aircraft. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing violent behavior in aviation settings.

As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how Rulamka and his legal representation will proceed. The impact of such incidents on passenger safety and the aviation industry at large underscores the need for vigilance and swift intervention when confronted with threats to in-flight security.

By addressing and reporting disruptive behaviors, passengers and crew alike play a crucial role in ensuring safe and secure air travel experiences for everyone on board.
