OAKLAND, CA – An Alaska Airlines flight from Oakland to Portland, Oregon, turned into a terrifying ordeal when a male passenger had a violent medical episode and attacked a young woman on board. The incident, captured on a viral video, has raised concerns about the safety of passengers and crew members during flights.
Flight 2221 was scheduled to depart from Portland International Airport to Oakland when the male passenger suddenly attacked the woman seated in front of him. The chaotic situation prompted a male flight attendant to intervene, repeatedly punching the attacker in the throat to release the woman’s hair from his tight grip.
The alarming video shows the tense moments as the flight attendant and another passenger managed to pry the attacker’s fingers from the woman’s hair, allowing her to escape to safety in the cabin area. The male passenger, now restrained, began hyperventilating and screaming loudly, prompting the flight attendant to call for assistance from able-bodied passengers.
The violent incident forced the cabin crew and pilots to return to the gate at the Portland airport, where the male passenger was taken into custody and subsequently banned from the airline indefinitely. The flight was eventually canceled due to the refusal of one flight attendant to continue working after being severely unnerved by the incident.
